About the Filmmaker

Jenifer McShaneJenifer McShane is an alumna of Incarnation Camp as well as an accomplished filmmaker with a distinguished career that started at CBS News. She made her mark in the documentary world with her first film, “A Leap of Faith,” which premiered in competition at the Sundance Film Festival in 1996. Narrated by Liam Neeson, “A Leap of Faith” provided an inspiring look at the efforts of parents in Belfast, Northern Ireland, to establish an integrated school for their Catholic and Protestant children during a time of deep sectarian conflict. The documentary was not only broadcast in the U.S. and internationally but also showcased at film festivals worldwide.

McShane’s film, “Mothers of Bedford,” is a thought-provoking documentary that delves into the lives of five women serving time in the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility. It shines a light on their struggles and the impact of their absence on their families. Since its premiere at Hot Docs 2011 in Toronto, “Mothers of Bedford” has resonated with audiences at prominent venues such as Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater, Jacob Burns Film Center, and the IFC in New York City. The film’s poignant message continues to spread, with screenings at festivals, universities, and independent theaters nationwide.

Beyond her filmmaking, Jenifer has served as the US Executive Director of Co-operation Ireland, a leading organization dedicated to fostering peace and reconciliation on the island of Ireland. Jenifer resides in Connecticut, where she continues to engage audiences with her powerful storytelling and dedication to impactful cinema.
